If at first you don’t succeed….

31 Jul

You kind of have to wait for at least Dress Down Friday before you can try again, in my case. But water lilies really can’t wait that long, not when they are planted in my mind!
I have no idea why I am so fascinated by the water lily. Well… Fascinated and frightened, because once I got my clear nail wheel thingies out, I spent half my evening avoiding getting started on anything water-related. Instead, I made a very cute sky-and-clouds nail and a dodgy zebra-esk whatever it may be.
And then, somehow all of a sudden the leaf (what’s that type of leaf called in English? I only know it as a “plompeblad”, and I’m not sure if that’s even the name in Dutch!) appeared and I knew I had to push through. I wasn’t planning on doing black outlines, as it tends to look more like a paint-by-the-numbers, but in this case it seemed to work quite well.
Half way through the lily I wasn’t sure, but all in all, I think it looks a whole lot better than attempt #1, right?
Water lily: check!
What will be next? Suggestions?

Failure to float

30 Jul

With summer in full bloom, I thought it’d be nice to have a tranquil little nail art of water lilies.
My first obstacle was the fact that out of a hundred and so nail polishes in my collection, there wasn’t a light blue in sight! Oops! One quick mix-up later I was ready to go.
To mimick the shimmer of light hitting the water, I randomly dapped a blue-silverish metallic polish over the light blue base.

Next stop, create the big leaf. I used 3 colors of green and a bit of white to create some dimension. So far, so good!

Unfortunately, the lily itself was a whole different story.
Aiming for the typical bulb like shape, my lily ended up looking like a fried egg.
I could always class it as an “artistic interpretation”, but let’s face it… this one sunk like a brick ๐Ÿ™‚

Sometimes gold just isn’t enough!

24 Jul

In a hurry this morning and with a slightly neurotic tendency to not have any chipped polished nails, I quickly removed the previous design from my nails and chucked a random polish in my bag before I jumped in the car to drive to work.
Once safely behind my desk, and while waiting for the computer to finish it’s morning wake up session, I painted my nails. Turns out this shade of Gold (by GOSH) wasn’t as subtle as I remembered it!
I normally have some other shades with me, but unfortunately I had a big bag clear out the other day. So much for tidying!

My golden nails survived the day, and upon returning home, I decided not to remove, only to add.
For some reason, I just can’t seem to stick to a plan! The initial idea was to have some sort of peony design (I love peonies and have been eager to do something peony-like!) but once again the (plain) flower took control.

I normally wouldn’t wear this to work unless it’s Dress Down Friday, but seeing as half the office is empty anyway because of the summer holidays, I’m taking a chance tomorrow. Me and my gold bling flowers. Wish us luck ๐Ÿ™‚

20 Jul

A week ago I had a very girly birthday party to go to, with a very girly gift, wrapped in very girly wrapping paper and with very girly wrapping ribbons.
I’m not the best in tidying, so those ribbons have been staring at me for a whole week, begging me to be the inspiration to my next nailart! I couldn’t take it anymore *dramatic armgesture to the forehead* and finally gave in this evening…
The original plan was to have red with white dots lined up with softpink with white hearts, but after dotting the heck out of the red strips, I was already taken by so much cuteness I decided hearts were overrated anyway.
I love them so much!!!

Here are my 4 little “muses” ๐Ÿ™‚

Celebrating my 1st follower!!

19 Jul

I woke up today to another Dress Down Friday, thinking it was going to be the same old-same old.
But it wasn’t! Today I found out I have my very first follower! *yay* and a big thank you to Beaushiondivaย for keeping an eye on my antics ๐Ÿ™‚

So, I don’t have any new spectacular designs, in fact… because my Dress Down outfit is quite loud (bright neon yellow) I decided to keep the nails understated. The picture is awful, but who cares… it’s Friday and I’m happy ๐Ÿ™‚
Sending out my love today ๐Ÿ™‚

take 2

13 Jul

With the previous look not really working that well, I decided on a different color scheme. A turquoise sea green with purple gradient.

I was thinking of a twirl meets butterflies design, but soon settled for just twirls. All in all, I am pretty pleased with the result!!

Show off!

13 Jul

For years, my little treasures have been tucked away in boxes, drawers and random cracks and corners that would fit them. Not the life they deserve..
Finally, as the redecoration of my own little diy room has begun, project “show off” has taken highest priority.ย
Got 4 heartshaped letterboxes, some excess wallpaper and a whole lot of fun piecing this lovely clover together. Even got my hands on the husband’s precious drill, so without further adue…ย
